This piece was first made as decoration for a party with an Austrian theme. Cows and electric fences are both typical Austrian things to me and this installation presents nostalgic Austrian childhood memories to be experienced again. A real electric fence is set up in front of the projection of cows strolling across the field. If the user touches the fence and receives a shock this is measured by a sensor and causes the visuals to change.

Setup

– energizer (7500 volt pulses that do not harm humans)
– 4 fence posts and stands
– 2×3 meters of fake or real green grass
– a/d converter (works as antenni/sensor)
– java applet that visually reacts to sensor input (programmed in processing)
– pc or mac computer that runs java
– projector
– ground (electrical connection)

Something to Stare At https://www.plusea.at/?p=82 https://www.plusea.at/?p=82#respond Mon, 24 Apr 2006 17:11:44 +0000 http://www.plusea.at/Wordpress/?p=82 ]]> An floral pattern abstracted from prominent landmarks around the city of Linz, painted on the ceiling of a hotel room.

A standing lamp projects the missing details of an abstract floral pattern painted on the hotel room’s ceiling. The hotel guest’s gaze wanders while lying in bed and begins to make sense of the shapes as the patterns projected by the lamp rotate and as time passes and she becomes familiar with the local scenery. Installed at the Spitz Hotel, Linz.

To every place there are certain things specific, things that over time have become personal to natives, are landmarks for foreigners and attractions for tourists. There are many shapes and details to the architecture and layout of a place that we do not see without all the people and history and colour that surround it. And yet the recognition of the simplest and most reduced similarity can remind us of whole landscapes.

By abstracting shapes from Linz I want to create a repetitive pattern, like those covering the seats of public transport. The patterns that you stare at until you recognise their rhythm and make out their individual elements and a story to go with it all forms in your head.

Kein Gedankenloser Transport https://www.plusea.at/?p=80 https://www.plusea.at/?p=80#respond Mon, 24 Apr 2006 17:11:07 +0000 http://www.plusea.at/Wordpress/?p=80 ]]> A set of three interactive visualizations, created to arouse an interest in the concept of transportation, leading to a more thoughtful sense for mobility.

Project website >> Kein Gedankenloser Transport

These animations can be seen as illustrations, wishing to raise conversation and interaction in the act of being mobile. Conceived to be shown on the increasing number screens emerging in public transport stations, bus stops, alongside the pavement, waiting rooms and restrooms, parks, librarys…
These interactive applets run in real-time so that they can be connected to live data such as the passing of pedestrians or current traffic statistics. They were created using Processing.

Our actions within public spaces today no longer seize the opportunity to communicate and interact, instead we consume and commute. Although public space offers us this chance to share, debate and reflect our opinions and ideas, only few of us do.

Public space has become an anonymous space where we distance ourselves from our surrounding. Our homes are much more comfortable platforms from which to immerse in public debate and social interaction via the internet and various digital media. These new forms of communication are replacing The Street as an opportunity for exchange.

Clothing that arranges the body https://www.plusea.at/?p=3 https://www.plusea.at/?p=3#respond Mon, 24 Apr 2006 06:34:28 +0000 http://www.plusea.at/Wordpress/?p=3 ]]> We carry our gadgets with us and become systems of sorts. Our bodies become storage boxes, showcases, and extensions of digital data we accumulate.

Project website >> Clothing that arranges the body

Clothing that arranges the body is a casual jacket that allows the wearer to connect the flow of electricity between devices scattered in pockets around their body. Through the acts of connecting, disconnecting and arranging the objects in different pockets the system becomes apparent while the user is forced to understand it and ultimately gains control over it.

Instead of regular plugs and plugholes the electrical current flows through magnetic fastenings originally intended for beading.

Exhibited as the result of a cooperation between Arge 2Rad and the Art University Linz from 27th February to 3rd March 2006 in the BA-CA Art Forum, Vienna under the working title The Future of the Motorized Bycycle.

(Quote from ARGE2Rad Presse)

Awards

“Hannah Perner-Wilsons Ansatz (Platz 2) ist ein anderer: sie fokussiert auf die Aesthetk einzelner Details des motorisierten Zweirades – so wird zum Beispiel eine Kettenstruktur zur Wandtapete – aus dem gewoehnlichen Kontext geloest und zweckentfremdet rekurrieren diese Details in der Alltaeglichkeit der eigenen vier Waende wiederum auf die Mobilitaet und Freiheit des Motorrads im Aussenraum.”
