ATtiny vs. Arduino Mini

Left: ATtiny (based on not having a Control module, instead wiring the button input directly to all ATtiny microcontrollers).
Right: Arduino Mini (it looks crazy, but it is actually quite straight fwd, and in my opinion simpler than the previous circuit i proposed.
We can “chalieplex” up to 8 * 7 = 56 lights – n*(n-1).
The sketch is a bit messy, but hopefully it makes a little bit of sense).

issues:
– arduino programming supported?
– can microcontroller power more than 4 LEDs at one time anyway?

They light up when picked, and possibly have pressure sensors built in, so that the harder you hold them, the more intense the pulsing and light intensity gets. Otherwise the pulsating could be a timed event that grows more intense over time, then relaxes and grows again.

In the script there are three or four scenes in which flowers are picked. Only in one of the scenes does it explicitly mention that the flower lights up as soon as hemming picks it (this is when he is recalling how he met pali). Could also add a pressure sensor to the stem, so that the more it is squeezed the brighter it gets.

How should these flowers should look? simple/extravagant, real/futuristic, natural/industrial….? Sketches for a set of three different looking flowers that all light up as soon as they are picked (the stem is touched). As they are held, their light(s) starts to pulse. for the pickable flowers i will use RGB LEDs, meaning that they can also change colour to white/orange/yellow/gold and red.
In addition to having the flower light up as soon as they are picked, i am trying to make one of the flowers open up using nitinol wire (a shape memory alloy), similar to this example >> http://vimeo.com/18650899

Then they die down as she recalls her mother. Possibly also they light up to show her path as she walks away.
Because there will be so many of these flowers, that their construction should be quite simple. they could look a futuristic or they could look as real or neutral as possible, so that they don’t draw attention to themselves until they start lighting up.
While rua’s cape needs to be triggered by her, these flowers can be triggered by a set technician.
The pulsing behavior could relate to the background soundtrack for this scene.

Rua will have to trigger the lights on her cape, once to indicate the arousal cycle, and then again once she has come, to start dimming the lights. her cape could have a tie or clasp on it that she opens/closes naturally as part of the scene and also works as a trigger event.
another idea would be to have a pressure sensor attached to rua’s cape, so that the harder she squeezes the more arousal she indicates. the pressure sensor could be flat and in the hem of the cape, or it could be something like this pompom pressure sensor >> http://www.flickr.com/photos/plusea/4953569835/
(to simplify things, one idea i had was that the lights in rua’s cape don’t light up individually, but rather pulse (dim and brighten) together, and the flowers surrounding her are the lights that light up individually.)
