Constructing the Gloves (2013)

Sewing the gloves back together

Circuitry

Battery

So that the LiPo battery can plug into the fabric circuit and include an on/off switch i made a little breakout board. The power is on when the white switch lever is on the side marked white, as shown in the photos.

Pressure Sensor

The impact pressure sensor is made using the same technique as described for the Conductive Thread Pressure sensor.
Instructable >> http://www.instructables.com/id/Conductive-Thread-Pressure-Sensor/
Conductive thread is stitched evenly across the sensitive area. Instead of Velostat, i used Eeonyx Eeontex (LG7430-SL-PA-10E5, Bath/Batch? RD-4-64-2B) fabric as a piezoresistive layer. I decided not to sew the contact from the pressure sensor to the circuit with conductive thread for two reasons. First, the material that the boxing glove is made of, is not ideal for sewing as it is plastic and thin, sharp thread tears though it. Second, conductive thread tarnishes from contact with skin oils, causing it’s conductivity to diminish. Instead of sewing, i attached two insulated wires directly to the pressure sensor and fed them underneath the outer fabric of the glove to the wrist area, where they connect to the rest of the circuitry.

Bluetooth

In order to make the Bluetooth module visible, so that one could see if it is connected, i tried cutting a window out of the outer flap, but this compromised the stability of the flap too much, so that i patched it up again.

Opening the Gloves

Electronics

Electronics components for both and for one glove. Including LiPo battery charger, which will not be mounted on the glove.
