SOCIAL DISTANCING AS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MATERIAL INTIMACY?
As somebody who leads crafty hands-on material workshops (mostly on e-textiles and physical computing), I’ve been trying to find interesting ways of communicating these experiences remotely, without relying on a setup in which participants spend the majority of their time in front of devices.
The social distancing measures that we are currently taking to slow the spread of covid-19, bar us from gathering physically with other humans, but nothing is stopping us from getting intimate with other (inanimate) beings. Maybe, all alone with other materials, we are able to get even more materially intimate with them!

VARIENTS
several of the variants appeared to me as underwater creatures that were prepared or “constrained” in some way – for grilling…. for display. i wondered, if these were creatures that had been hunted / collected to be put on show. what reason somebody would have had to do this?
what were these creatures? what did they represent?
they are large, like elephants in the room.
they are edible, we would like to eat them.
but they are too large for us to digest.

FORMULATE
playing a material adventure
a facility for controlling the creatures that are too big for us to eat, digest and get out of our system.
these creatures represent topics that we are not able to resolve, that we will always be hungry to discuss.
